Asteroid Hit?

If ever an asteroid or a huge meteor was predicted to encounter the earth's orbit with the chances being a 100 in 100, would there be any way to divert it or blow it? Trying to break it up with a bomb would be a bad idea as far as my knowledge goes as there is no oxygen in space and the bombs need oxygen to blow up. Secondly, would a big spaceship be allowed to crash into it thereby diverting its route? One day or the other, we have to have an answer for this. Asteroid TU24 ped within about 334,000 miles of the earth. The next one may be headed right at the earth. Any useful answers would greatly be appreciated. If possible, is there any site or email of NASA that would entertain such queries? Tnx in advance.
