Is this tongue cancer? dentists please help:?

i'm really worried, i first noticed a painful tongue colored (a little lighter than the tongue) lump on one side of my tongue about a week ago and it appeared fast and the next day it didnt bother me so i never looked at it in the mirror. today it came again, it hurts again and i looked and its back and it looks more widespread..is this possibly tongue cancer??
